Absolutely fascinating story, my commendation to Cdr. Trosino and his crew - that was no small feat. You are correct the Diesels were started with compressed air, which could be made with the electric compressor once he had the batteries charged.
Read various accounts of your odyssey, but had not heard about that alledged Polish crewmember. Must have been from Silesia, which changed hands in the past a couple times between Prussia, Poland and KK Austria. Must have figured that that might be a way to shorten prisoner-of-warship. Again, good stuff.
Did that baby flattop tow her in through that small cut into St. George or around to Hamilton? Off hand I do not remember when that St.George cut was made. Anyone recollect?? RB
