Thankyou Captain,

As usual, your answers are thorough and lucid. I figure you have got to be a professional mariner. Your knowledge of this topic appears to be based on more than just reading about it; you strike me a someone who has spent some time at sea.

Having looked at U995 in detail, yes I can see that the framing on a sub is athwartship. I do not recall having seen any longitudinal supports other than the keel and I was unable to really examine this in detail.

Do you know of any instances where a submarine is suspected to have broken in half running on the surface?
