A torpedo maintains level by it's own built in depth control. If it is a G7a ,steam or any other type of propellant type of torpedo it 's bouancy will change as it consumes it's fuel. Electric driven stays pretty much the same but has less range and speed. Most torps had a poor depth control design and many would go straight down or brouch the surface, this leading to major design changes to the depth control devices.
