Hi, fellows!
We used to designate the two periscopes as the "Attack" and "Search" periscopes. Both are operated from the ops room, within the pressure hull.
The search periscope has a wide angle view, with several magnification settings,
but is a larger tube than the attack periscope, with two settings. The attack 'scope has a much narrower tube so that it will leave a smaller wake than the search 'scope.
