Hi Garth
Interesting indeed! Your experience of being able to receive ULF signals at a 30 meter depth matches what information I have on the subject. The very long wavelengths of ULF radio waves do penetrate sea water to an appreciable distance.
I think it is interesting that our friends modeling submarines are able to use radio control at 27 MHz to control their models traveling a few feet beneath the surface. Most of this is done in fresh water; I am not sure that it would work in salt water with the higher conductivity. What do you think? 27MHz is a pretty high frequency to use for underwater transmission.
However, I have read of submarines towing a receiving antenna which floats on the surface while the submarine itself remains submerged. Do you have any information on this?
