We call it the Imperial System, though its being edges out by Napolean's ill thought-out Metric System. Its quite common in Britain to here someone refer to something as being '1 metre long by a yard square'.
The Imperial system is not quite the same as what you use in the US. Our mile is a little longer, your gallon is a little smaller, and I think there are other differences too.
