You are right about Rob Gannons book. As a matter of fact, I have had a copy since it was first published and somehow overlooked it when I was looking for Mk27 information. I also recommend it to anyone looking for information on US WW II torpedo development. Incidently, I saw Fido in the bomb bays of the TBFs on the flight deck of USS Guadalcanal. The ordnance men either didn't know or wouldn't tell us what it was. We just thought it was some kind of a new depth charge with a propellor. Strange indeed! The pilots were limited to certain circumstances under which it could be dropped. The U-boat had to have gone under during its dive before the weapon was released, insuring no one on the sub saw the weapon. It would have been very easy to countermeasure.
