I don't know of any Walter boats being built by the US. Britain built one or two, but quickly decided it was not a good idea. The Electroboats were more interesting, and greatly influenced Soviet sub design. The US built few diesel boats after WWII, instead modifing leftover fleet boats. They just took the old Gato/Balo/Tench boats, added a snorkel, cleaned up the clutter and changed the conning tower to a more streamlined design. Some also had the bow redone.
