Technology and Operations
Hi Rainer!
Good to meet You again my Friend!
You are correct about the infuriated feelings from all Allied concerned.
But I do not think this feelings was toward the Cuban CS-13 Commander.
Remember Morison maintains that Delgado made 2 perfect DC attacks,
wich sank U-176!
The hard feelings was for events taking place 2 days earlier! :
When Kapitänleutnant Reiner Dierksen in U-176 attacked the small Cuban convoy
NC-18 East of Nuevitas on the 13th May -43,and sank US tanker NICKELINER
and Cuban tanker MAMBI in 21*25´N-76*40´W,
the Cuban Escort Commander,(whose name is not mentioned), "forgot" to report
these attacks for several hours!!!!!
So it was not until well into the night that subchasers and Kingfishers began to
comb the waters of Cayo Frances, while destroyer escort BRENNAN,4 PCs and
a Blimp, undertook to work over the western exits of the Old Bahama Channel.
It was in one of these exits,Nicolas Channel, that on 15th May a Kingfisher
spotted U-176,bombed,marked and led CS-13 to the prey.
