type XXI power plant

I am new to the uboat .net web site so please be patient. can anyone tell me how the closed cell engine using perhydrol worked on the type XXI boat.i understand it was a one shot use which gave a submerged speed of 17 knots for 1.5 hours max duration.then it was back to battery power.I believe the closed cell engine was called \"balka\"thanks in advance
