Battery self-regulating room?

Hi all.

From time to time I\'m working on my virtual U-boat and now and then I stumble on things that I don\'t have enough information about to be able to model it correctly. Now it has happened again and I hope someone here can help me.
It\'s about a small room/locker just before the captains bed, if coming from the control room. On my drawings It\'s called \"Battery self-regulating room 2\" It seems to have double doors. But what was behind the doors, where you able to enter the room or was it just some sort of control panel directly behind the doors? And what was the purpose for this room/control panel?

Anyone who knows?
