Hello Commander....

"Fido" was the first successful passive-acoustic weapon. Single screw, battery-powered, with four hydrophones on the warhead.

"Cutie" was designed as a submarine weapon, Being only 19" in diameter, it was able to swim out of the tube using its 5 horsepower electric motor to propel it at
about 12 knots.

After obtaining a German acoustic torpedo, the Navy had copied their weapon, and the result was the 21"diameter, heavyweight torpedo, the Mark 28; it was issued to some
Pacific fleet boats at the end of WWII. It was launched using compressed air like the "steam" torpedoes.

Torpedoes with active-acoustic capabilities entered the service only after WWII.
