Hedgehog had a faster sinking time than d/c\'s but could not be set to explode at a depth, there were 24 in a circular pattern and they relied on one making physical contact with the target which would countermine the rest. Superkraut is correct in assuming that the target may have moved on during the sinking time. Squid was more effective in that it delivered a ton of explosive to any given depth, applied at the instant of firing. No escape !
