Reading about the armament data we often came trough the \"standard\" torpedo gauge, or bore, of 533 mm that equals 21 inches and is still in use today. Apart from the French Navy who used his own gauge of 500 mm and the Italian Navy who used both the old 450 mm and the 533 mm, I often wondered if torpedoes of the same bore could be used by different Navies or Services. In other words, could an US Navy vessel or submarine use British 533 mm torpedoes and vice versa? Could a T boat use a submarine torpedo? Could a German U-boat launch a torpedo made in Italy or vice versa? I understand that each Country was somewhat jealous of her own torpedo technology, I just wondered if they came to a standardisation stage a bit more advanced than the simple diameter of the tube and \"fish\". Where the Navies who got German hardware as prize of war could find the torpedo reloads? Maybe in Switzerland?
