Type VllC

I now know the boats I am interested in were specifically the VllC types - up to 1945.

This narrows things down somewhat.

In view of this, can anyone summarise what kind of defence they would have had against aircraft attacks in the Mediterranean Sea?

Also how quickly could they dive - in terms of from the point where visual contact is made with an approaching plane?

What would have been the usual tactic for escape?

How soon after the U-371 sinking did the Germans become aware that the allies had a new strategy - The Swamp - and did the Germans do anything specifically to counteract this?
