I've never even thought about your question. I guess the trick would be to find a secure, watertight compartment huh.

In climbing over the US Batfish (US Gato sub) I'm always surprised at how much space there is between the wooden decking and the inner shell. I didn't get to look over the outside of the 505 in Chicago and don't know the amount of room.

I guess I should say that I don't ever recall reading in any account of food ever being stowed topside. Must be some reason, but I don't know it. Seems like there must be some compelling reason if space was so tight that one head was converted to a pantry--leaving over 50 men to use the other single head.
