Wiljan:
When I posted my question about the Pi3 pistol, I was not aware that the
little brass propellor spun off, resulting in the arming of the pistol. I had
discussed my question with another submarine enthusiast, a submate
living just a few miles from me in Venice, FL. He had a copy of the book
I mentioned and showed it to me.
My reason for asking the question in the first place, was the fact that a
U-boat wreck diver somewhere on the east coast of the U.S. claims he has retreived such a little brass propellor and didn't know what it was.
The U.S. Navy used a similar arming propellor/impeller on the MK 142 exploder mechanism for the MK 27 passive-acoustic swim-out torpedo of the 50s. but it didn't "spin off" like the Pi3 did.
Have a great day,
