Hmm thanks for all the illuminating feedback, Rob, Dan.
Dan: do understand I'm not an 'advocate' for diesel-electric ships. This is just a subject (obviously one of great contention for the Navy) which interests me. (And, a somewhat disturbing one; i.e. the catastrophic notion of an enemy submarine sending a 100,000 ton carrier--along with much of its crew--to the bottom.)
Rob: It seems that a full-stop or a reverse would be relatively rare occurences for a submarine, hence this limitation (i.e. having to turn pumps on in such cases) would not be of great significance?
Cheers,
Robert
