Again before i post, just like to state i'm no expert.

Ok, this said, like any given weapon you will have pros and cons for the use of two types. For example Shoe leather express vs Truck/Tank/ exc. Shoe leather express is very quite, hard to spot, less restrictive on where you can/ can't go. Now on the other hand its also time consuming, wastes more engery of the man, puts him at more risk, and so on. Now flip flop this to fit the other. You have trade offs. Does this mean either is better than the other? No, it simply means you must choose the correct method for the correct mission. And in any case you also have to factor in the all mighty luck factor.

Another factor is cost, to build, and lifetime cost to operate?

When you add it all up, which is better??

Depends on mission, your budget, where you are going to operate? and so on. So in MY opinion yes Diesel Electric/ Nuclear subs are great weapons. : > )
