Hi, it was possible on a type IX but I cannot say for sure other classes of boats. This was done by U-507 on 11 September 1952 for purposes of trim. The torpedo was transferred from the stern room to the bow room by passing it up through the aft torpedo loading hatch, moving it forward along the track in the over deck on the wheeled loading cradle, and then down through the forward torpedo loading hatch. The boat carried a portable crane which was used to move the torpedo on and off of the wheeled loading cradle while the cradle was moved to and from the loading position to the track along the edge of the over deck and back. This process took 4 hours. In theory it could be done on a type VII by putting the torpedo in the water with the crane, floating it around the conning tower and then taking it back on board with the crane but I have never heard of that being done. Cheers, Jerry
