Underwater refuelling

Hello to all,
I hope that you may be able to help me with my query.

The U-boat U-490 was apparently capable of, and her crew trained in, refuelling other U-boats as an undersea activity. From the limited information I have perused, this vessel would refuel only schnorkel-equipped boats. Would this mean that the diesel fuel flowed through the snorkel or a pipe attached to it, or via some other apparatus for which snorkel-equipped boats were thus fitted? It seems to me that the boats that were expected to receive the fuel would have not had any training in such an activity prior to U-490 going on her one and only patrol. So a question on undersea refuelling, that I hope someone may be able to answer. Thank you very much for your time.
