Emergency hatch

Hi everyone!

I have a question for the experts: let's consider a VIIC type, middle 1944.
I tell this little fantasy story just to explain my question:
A small merchant rams the submarine, and she sinks in 60-70 m of water, hitting the bottom. The central part of the submarine is intact and surviving crew attempt to escape from the turret hatch. External pressure is too high to open the hatch.

The question is: was there a way to flood only the room above the control room without opening the hatch? Opening some valves, for example…and, does anyone know more about emergency procedures at that time? Just to know if this possibility has been considered, or if it's pure fantasy….

Thanks!!!
Michele
