...applicable. The thing is that a relative of mine operated a small vessel with a Burmeister & Wain two-stroke die4sel with Roots-blower and he told me that it wasn't a particularly low consumption engine, though very reliable and rugged.

And the data I have on the GM 6-71 diesel as applicable to WW2 does suggest that it does have a relatively high sfc for a diesel. And the GM 6-71 does follow the operating principle of the Winton/Cleveland diesels as installed in the fleet subs, i.e. a two-stroke diesel with Roots-type scavenge pump with exhaust valves.

For some reason Lyle Cummins's big book on sub diesels do not have sfc data on US engines.
