depennds on type and point of time during war.

typ VII highest production were later much higher than before war due to prebuilding of sections on the german countryside far away from the dockyards similiar to the liberty ship construction / production idea.
And there is a huge difference from production to "Indienststellung" and to first mission. The final production time on the shipyard around 1942 / 1943 of a typ VII sub should have been below 6 month when they reached peak of mass production.
705 sub of all typ VII modells were built in total,
19 of them before war
15 under construction while war broke out in 1939.

There were a lot and huge improvements in the production and its efficiency to built these 670 subs during 4 years of war til 30th of Sept. 1943 when all orders for the typ VII were cancelled and all under construction were scrapped.
Therefore the number of orders of typ XXI modells were increased a lot.
