Establishing and maintaining a picket

My understanding is that in trying to locate convoys (HX229 and SC122 are my interest), a picket was established.

Does anybody know:

-The spacing of the boats in the picket
-How that spacing was maintained once established
-Was the picket stationary or moving a speed to maintain steerage
