Deck gun effectiveness

I am doing some historical research and am looking for data on German Type VII and IX submarine deck gun effectiveness. Specifically, how many rounds it took to sink ships of various sizes. Most accounts I have read do not indicate how many rounds were fired during enmgagements in which a sub sank a surface ship. Thanks for any help you all can give
