HMS KIPLON

I'm new to this but I need a little help. I'm researching my family history and a story keeps coming up about a man called James Smylie (Jim), he was from Belfast and I have been told he went down with his ship HMS KIPLON. The name may not be exact but this was around the time of the seige of Malta and this was a minesweeper. I have checked the online records as best I can but to no avail.
Can anyone help identify the ship or him?
