HMS Halifax

Please can you help me to locate information on my grandfather. I know
he was from Georgetown, Guyana and his ship sunk in January 1943. I
believe he was in Sierra Leone early 1942 were he met with my
grandmother Louise Dove. My mother was born in June 1943 and all she
knows is that his ship HMS Halifax? Was sunk in 1943 and his name was
James Beaton.

Can you give me any further information please.
