J & K Pendant Numbers

I am working on a naval history project dealing with Allied warships that wore J and K Superior (British) Pendant Numbers between 1940 to about 1949; e.g. minesweeping and escort vessels.

To date I have a record of over 1,000 warships, many from Navies other than the RN and RCN, e.g. the Greek KARTERIA J865; the Dutch JOHAN MAURITS VAN NASSAU K251; and the French LA PAIMPOLAISE K107. But I lack both local knowledge of and access to, reliable reference books on these other navies.

A search of the Internet has not proven productive due to language constraints, out of date email addresses listed on the sites, and my lack of local knowledge.

Successful contact has been made with naval historians in Australia and South Africa and of course, RN and RCN vessels are complete with just a few anomalies to overcome. I am now looking for Points of Contact for the navies of these countries: Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, India, New Zealand, Norway, the Netherlands, Pakistan, and Yugoslavia.

For each of these countries, I would like to get in touch with:
a. a naval historian with interest in or knowledge of, the 1939 – 1949 period; or
b. a naval museum; or
c. someone in-country – a friend, relative, associate - who could steer me to an historian or a museum.

Preferably, the historian should have the following characteristics:
- have access to email;
- be able to read and write English fairly well; and
- have access to naval references for any one of the above named countries.

For specified vessels in the various navies, the following information is sought:
1. confirmation of the correct spelling of ship’s names;
2. the nomenclature employed for such names;
3. confirmation of the rate and class of various vessels;
4. confirmation of the J or K number employed and the date changed to another pendant number;
5. accurate dates on which the ship was taken over and/or given up, by the navy concerned; and
6. where possible up to 1949, the fate of the vessel concerned.

Any and all assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
