according to Eugene Kolesnik's data re. the speed trials, Blyskawica's speed on the 4 hour run was corrected to 40,04 kn @ 2056 mt, whereas she was running at 2216 mt (2177 tons). The speed quoted was therefore theoretical and not de facto reached. Please note that I am just trying to be objective, this is not an attempt to undercat the achievements of anyone.
I am Italian but would certainly not quote that infamous 42.05 kn on trials of the da Barbiano as a valid speed - 32 minutes run without guns on board, forcing the boiler to a dangerous point etc - in the name of what? proaganda! I rather keep my feet on Earth and quote speed that can be attained & maintained. What is the use of a one time achievement that will never be duplicated in service?
I sincerely hope not to offend anyone's sensibility on this matter,
