<HTML>Hi Brian,
HMS Tweed, K.250, was a "River" class frigate built by Inglis, launched 27/11/42 & completed 1943. She was 1370 ts, and armed with 2-102mm guns.
On 7/1/444 she was part of the 5th Support Group, composed of herself, sisteship Nene and 4 "Flower" class corvettes", deployed to attempt an interception of a German blockade runner NW of the Spanish coast.
While engaged in the task, the ships crossed paths with, and were attacked by, the U-boote of the "Borkum" wolfpack, Tweed being torpdoed and sunk by U-305 at 1711 hrs, in position 48.18 N, 21.19 W. I have no info on casualties.
The sub was sunk 10 days later by the DD Wanderer & the PF Glenarm (ex Strule, later French Croix de Lorraine) at posiion 49.39 N, 20.10 W. Corvette Geranium may have also been involved in this attack, sources are unclear.
