Re: WIVERN, I said she had 6-torpedo tubes, but she only had three 21-inch, in triple mounting. She displaced 1120-tons (1500-tons full load. had two 2lb pom poms, one machine gun, four Lewis guns, three 4.7-inch guns, one 3-inch gun. Steam turbines (all geared type) by Brown Curtis, designed SHP 27,000 = 31-knots, two screws, Yarrow boilers, Oil-374-353/324-318 tons and a complement of 134.
WIVERN began 19 August 1918 launched 16 April 1919, completed 23 December 1919.

Admiralty 'Modified' W class ships were Whitshed built at Swans, Witherington, Wivern, Wolverine and Worcester built at White's

'Jane's Fighting Ships WW2'

The remains of Witherington lie on the south side of South Shields pier in 30-feet. Her brass and copper turbines are still there but smashed and concreted into the rocks of the pier and seabed.
