Take a look at the Allied Warships section on the front page of this site. This will give you the basic information on HMS Magpie. She was involved in the Normandy Landings and in the sinking of 2 U-Boats U-238 and U-592 both boats were lost with all hands.
If you are serious about reaserching your Grandfather, I suggest you buy a book entitled "TRACING YOUR NAVAL ANCESTORS" by Bruno Pappalardo. It is available from Amazon.
