<HTML>Hi Ian,
The ship was named after a beneficier called Georgios Averoff who gave the bulk of the money needed to purchase the ship from the Italian construction firm in Livorno and buy her ammunition from UK.
The official name of the ship is "Georgios Averoff", although even here in Greece she's called just "Averoff". On the bow of the ship the name is again "Averoff". She is a floating museum in Piraeus, Greece.
