Hello everyone,

I'm doing a little research on my grandad.

He was on HMS Albatross, and there is a story in the family about the day they were drawing fire off the Germans to divert attention from the D Day landings.
They were torpedoed, pretty damaged and had to go back to Portsmouth with 80 (66) crew members dead sealed in the crews quarters and apparently they had to release them into the sea before they were allowed to dock.

can anyone verify this?

Grandad survived the war but understandably he never spoke about this often so we got very little out of him.

in case anyone is interested my granddad was Albert Philip Henry Evans
