I live in a small village called Pumpherston in West Lothian. Last year the local Community Council approached me, requesting would I carry out a research regarding the young men from the village who paid the supreme sacrifice in World Wars 1 & 2 Due to having carried out this work for other villages in West Lothian namely Broxburn where I was born and neighbouring Uphall. I fully accepted the responsibility. The purpose of this task is to eventually have a memorial erected to these young men here in Pumpherston. I have been raising funds through talks and displays and happily we are well on our way, with West Lothian Council designating a piece of ground for the memorial. Now to cut this story short.I wish to report in my research I have found a young man from the village who perished on the H.M.S. Maaloy. Seaman Patrick Joseph Malloy LT/JX 280816.Note his surname in relation to the ships name. He was one of 7 sons, out of 7, 6 went to serve their country, 2 in the Army, 2 in the RAF and 2 in the Navy which include Patrick.
