Dear Sir or Madam, My father, Mr. Joseph Alexander Mitchell (known as Bob), served on the Pennywort, probably joining in 1942. Unfortunately, he died suddenly, in March 1998, but I clearly remember him mentioning his great friend Reg Daughtrey. Also a radio officer, they must have worked closely together. Another friend was Pete Lyon. I have some information about the ship's movements in 1943. Much of the duty was on the Atlantic Convoys, working out of Londonderry. They also had to refit on Tyneside in that year. On a 48 hour leave, he would say that most of the time was spent travelling to his home near Carlisle, leaving precious little time at home.
