Italian frogmen or Midget sub?

<HTML>Hi
I remember an event my father spoke of when his ship was mined by Italian frogmen or mini-sub while the ship was anchored in harbour. I think this was probably Malta or perhaps Alexandria. The ship was mined and then settled on the harbour bottom. My father slept through it all, waking up to pull the blankets back on.
Does anyone know the name of this ship?
