<HTML>Hello David,
Yes you are correct. Warspite was hit by a bomb dropped from a Bf109 of III/JG7 on 22 May 1941. 38 men were killed and there was extensive damage to the Stbd 6in and 4ins gun positions. After being repaired on 16th Sept 1942 she was again bombed off Salerno, this time by a F1400 radio guided bomb which blew a hole some 20 X 14ft in the outer bottom.

The Queen Elizabeth sustained heavy damage on 19 Dec 1941 by two man Chariots of the 'Decima Mas' launched from the Royal Italian Navy Submarine 'Scire'. The charges (Limpet Mines) blew out about 11000 (Eleven Thousand) square feet of the outer bottom, and though she settled on the bottom her decks remained above water. Repairs were completed in the USA by June 1943. It it said that in order to fool the enemy normal daily routine was maintained whilst temporary repairs were made.</HTML>
