MARTIN was an 'M' class destroyer.
Built by Vickers-Armstrong on the Tyne, being launched 12 December 1940 and completing 4 April 1942.
1920 tons 362ft x 37ft
armed 3 x twin 4.7in
1 x quad 2 pdr
2 x 20mm
2 x quad torpedo tubes
42 depth charges

Initially joined 17th Destroyer Flotilla; May 1942 escort to Russian convoy PQ.16. July 1942 to Russia on supply run, returning as escort to convoy QP.14.
August 1942 - another supply run to Russia; 29 August in company with 'Marne' & 'Onslaught' sank German minelayer 'Ulm' off Bear Island.
Sept.1942 escort to Russian convoy PQ.18
Oct.1942 - transferred to 3rd Destroyer Flotilla.
30 Oct.42 - assigned to 'Force H' & deployed to Med.
10 Nov. 1942 - torpedoed and sunk by 'U-431' off Bougie whilst escorting a convoy for Operation Torch</HTML>
