<HTML>According to The Canadian Naval Chronicle 1939 - 1945, by McKee and Darlington, NEW WATERFORD did not capture a U-Boat. Chapter 53 refers.
HMC Ships ANNAN and LOCH ACHANALT sank U1006 on 16 Oct 1944 and survivors were picked up by those two vessels as well as HMCS OUTREMONT. Some German seamen were transferred to NEW WATERFORD where "Surg Lt Dick Gilpin, RCNVR, in NEW WATERFORD, operated for many hours on the German survivors transferred from other ships with leg and abdominal wounds." (page 187/8.
