Hi Ron, U-1024 had just attacked convoy BB.80, hitting the American liberty vessel Will Rogers. Following this attack she was located by RN ships of the 8th Hunter/Killer group. HMS Loch Glendhu, having got a fix on the submerged U-boat attacked with her squid. Following a hit, the U-boat surfaced amid the group. The commander on seeing his situation hopeless ordered the boat abandoned. The scuttling charges were not set properly and did not do their job, a result of which RN personnal boarded the U-boat and took off valuable papers and eqipment. With 37 survivors & 8 dead, including the commander, U-1024 was taken under tow by another vessel in the group HMS Loch More, but succumed to her damage and sank.</HTML>
