I am a British journalist based in Valencia, Spain. In mid-March a colleague andI will be visiting Commonwealth war Grave sites in Andalucia, Southern Spain to do research for a series of articles.
We will be visiting Ceuta (a Spanish enclave on the African continent), where some crew of HMS Hecla are buried.
The only info we have is from CWGC files:
SKELHORNE, JABEZ Initials: J Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Engine Room Artificer 4th Class Regiment/Service: Royal Navy Unit Text: H.M.S. Hecla. Age: 31 Date of Death: 12/11/1942 Service No: D/SMX 62 Additional information: Son of John and Mary Skelhorne; husband of Mary Skelhorne, of Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Block Santa Gema. Niche 179.
STOCKER, CHARLES Initials: C Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Able Seaman Regiment/Service: Royal Navy Unit Text: H.M.S. Hecla. Age: 46 Date of Death: 12/11/1942 Service No: D/J17615 Additional information: Son of John and Alice Stocker; husband of Minnie Stocker, of Blandford, Dorsetshire. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Block Santa Gema. Niche 178.
THICK, ALBERT J. Initials: A J Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Leading Stoker Regiment/Service: Royal Navy Unit Text: H.M.S. Hecla. Date of Death: 12/11/1942 Service No: D/K 57784 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Block Santa Gema. Niche 180.
