I can offer a little:
A search of the index of the 'Times' reveals several references to him:
Promoted Sub-Lieutenant 16 March 1935
Promoted Lieutenant 16 March 1937
appointed to China gunboat 'Falcon' at Shanghai in January 1938.

Marriage announced 6 October 1941; then described as 'son of Andrew McClure of 21 Sandfield Road, Heddington, Oxford (late of Uganda) to Diana Dorothea, daughter of Mr & Mrs G F Barker of Broadway House, Yeovil"

His DSC was gazetted on 23 June 1942 (no details)

In December 1959 he was listed as attending the reunion of the 1926 Rodney Term at Britannia RN College

The marriage of his son announced on 15 January 1969:
"Ian, son of Lt Cdr. J A McClure of Buckleigh House, Godalming to Lydia, daughter of Mr & Mrs Christie-Miller of Firwood Hall, Disley, Cheshire"
