I am trying to find the ship(s) my late father sailed on.

My late father was on a Merchant Aircraft Carrier (MAC ship) during the war maintaining the Swordfish aircraft. Unfortunately, he never said which MAC ship(s).

I have just come across some of his photographs that he took whilst serving on board and also at the surrender of the U-boats in 1945 in Northern Ireland. On the back of one of the photographs it says 'K' Flight 836 Squadron 1944. On the back of another photograph it says that the COs plane is L.S. 351 Swordfish. There is a photograph of the crew who presumably maintained the Swordfish and on the back it says Empire MacDermott.

The photographs are very interesting as they show the U-boats surrendering and the U-boat captains and crew being guarded before being sent off to a PO camp. On one of the photographs it says that it is Max Horton accepting the surrender at Lisahally in Northern Ireland on 2 May 1945.

Some of the photographs have been taken from the air as well as being adjacent to the U-boats themselves. What I am unsure about is whether some of these photographs were taken by my father. Clearly he took some as he is in the shots alongside the Swordfish on the deck.

When he was alive he mentioned to me that the only casualties on his convoys had been when an escort ship had been torpedoed. From my research this would appear to be the Pinto on Convoy HX-304.

Would anyone know the name of the MAC ship in Convoy HX-304?

Also, would anyone know whether Max Horton accepted the surrender of the U-boats at Lisahally in May 1945?

Many thanks in advance
