Good evening All,
The information I have is taken from ROYAL NAVY TRAWLERS part 1 by Gerald Toghill which I suggest is the source of Johns posting.
HILLS CLASS 1941-44
Displacement: 510TG 16TN
Engines : 970HP = 11kts
Armament: 1 x 12-pdrAA
3 x 20mm AA (single)
2 x DCT 2 x DCR
P.No: T 218
1940: Ordered on 28 November, 1941: L. 9 July. Built at Beverley by CWG and engined by Holmes. Completed as an A/S. 1942: Commissioned at birkenhead in May. One of the first Trawlers to be fitted with radar. Employed on Convoy duties. transferred to the Med. TPI Operation Torch, the N. African Landings in November, 1943. Transfered to the West African Escort Force based at Freetown. Employed on Convoy Escort duties. Transferred to the 2nd A/S Grp. based at Freetown. 1944: LOST. ICW Trawlers INKPEN and TUR COMAN escorting the French ST. BASTILE off Lagos, Nigeria on 13 June, she was torpedoed and sunk by the U-547. There were only 15 survivors who managed to reach shore on 2 liferafts. The sole surviving officer, a S/Lt.RNVR, trekked through the jungle to fetch help.
