for me the Co's is the most accurate to say what happen to his ship.
the mistake come because the ship don't sunk immediatly and a near miss when in tow accelerate her end
(note the CO's say a bomb and not a glider bomb)

so you can say hit by a mine and sunk in tow or sunk by a near miss after mining
just a world about the damage if fresh water enter the boiler it explodes
