My father was also aboard HMS Greyhound when she was evacuating members of the BEF
from the beaches south of Dunkirk in May 1940 and was wounded in the attack that caused many casualties and that put the ship out of action ( she had to be towed to Dover).
It seems unclear if the ship was hit by an aircraft attack or shore fire.
My father was always very grateful to the navy for resciung him on that day.
