Tom:
USS CINNAMON (YN-69) was launched 6/6/43 as ROYAL PALM
by Pollack-Stockton Shipbuilding Co, Stockton, CA; sponsored by
Mrs. E.R. Ward; renamed CINNAMON on 7 December 1943; and
commissioned 10 January,1944, LCDR J.H. Russell, USNR, in command. She was reclassified as AN-50 on 20 January 1944.
There is no "reason" available for the renaming, however, several of these vessels were classified as Auxiliary Net Layer (AN), thus
dropping the Yard Net Layer (YN) designation.
Hope this helps,
ROBERT M.
