Hi Brian

Your reply about S.58 has enabled me to collect quite a bit of information looking through a few books over the weekend.

This is what I've now added to the information you supplied:

HMT Horatio was torpedoed & sunk by the German S.58, of the 3rd Schnellboote Flotilla or 'Die Afrika Flotille' (with Flotilla Comander Friedrich Kemnade, on board), on the 7 January 1943.

HMT Horatio was serving with the 8th Minesweeper-Anti-submarine group based at Oran, Western Mediterranean. Thirty two crew were lost and two taken prisoner.

Towards the end of the war Schnellboote S.58 was beached on the Island of Unije, destroyed by MGBs on 17.01.1945

Lieutenant Commander Friedrich Kemnade was one of only eight naval officers to be awarded the E-boat War Badge with Diamonds, a personal award from the commander of the German Navy to particularly successful commanders of E-boats who were having an increasing effect on patrolling the English Channel. After WWII, Kemnade was an officer of the Germany Navy being promoted to Admiral in 1964.

Thanks again.
